A welcome weekend break @ Hotel Sonar Bangla, Taki

A short break away from the humdrum routine and the stress of daily living is always a welcome change. Frankly, I had got quite sick of cooking, cleaning, keeping house, doing my content writing work on loop. In short, I was thristing for a peaceful holiday.

We didn't want to risk taking flights or trains in this Covid situation, so any beach or mountain vacation was out of question.

Finally, after searching on the net for weekend destinations near Kolkata, and on the recommendation of friends, zeroed in on Taki, a small hamlet near the river Ichhamati

Taki is a weekend getaway situated about 60 km near Kolkata (about three hours on road).  And it was a well-deserved and long-delayed (due to the pandemic) break at Hotel Sonar Bangla, Taki .

First things first, we really liked Hotel Sonar Bangla, Taki, a three-star hotel that offers great food and courteous service. Best of all, is the layout of the hotel.

Fresh Air, Green Lawns, Quietly Flowing River = Great Relaxation

The manicured lawns of the spacious property allowed us to stroll around in leisure, or take rides on their beautiful wooden garden swings. The swimming pool beckoned welcome, but was too crowded to take a risk in these Covid times. And the topping on the cake was the river Ichhamati flowing by quietly near the hotel grounds.

You can easily spend a couple of days lazing around, doing nothing on this beautiful resort. It is best to come here without any itinerary (there are no must-do, touristy things here anyway). We did go for a sunset-watching, leisurely boat ride on the river, arranged by the hotel itself. In the quiet amber glow of the setting sun, the boat ride was magically calming.

Advantage - Comfort and Style

The rooms in Hotel Sonar Bangla, Taki are spacious and well-ventilated with lovely balconies for relaxing.

The rooms are equipped with all modern facilities, while the balconies opening towards the beautiful lawn or facing the river, are a definite bonus.

What impressed me most, was that the property, while offering all comforts of city life, is set in an idyllic, pastoral setting. That gives the traveller the best of both worlds, literally!

The only minus was the hordes of tourists who literally swarmed the place. Must avoid the holiday season to get some peace and solitude.

And wish the apporaching roads were in better condition, with proper signages (Taki Municipal Corporation and hotel authorities, please note).

Would love to visit again in the future, for sure.
