The value of good health

It is only when we fall ill that we recognize the value of good health, said Manisha Koirala (Bollywood actress, activist and cancer survivor) in a recent interview to a daily. How very true! When we lose something, we realize its importance. This is particularly true of our physical and mental wellness and health.

How much we take for granted that which is actually the most precious thing in life! We lose our health so easily in our efforts to gain money, earn promotions, meet deadlines, achieve high marks etc. Like so many things in life which come free, we assume our wellness is also free. However just like so many essentials which are unnoticed in their presence, good health is also conspicuous by its absence.

This point was driven home recently when I visited a hospital to admit my ailing father. So many children, youth and old persons afflicted by various physical and mental ailments, awaiting or undergoing painful and complicated treatment, made me acknowledge the wealth I actually own now. It made me doubly resolve to take care of myself and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Just as darkness shows us the value of light, disease makes us value good health. NOTHING can replace well-being. So take Care!
